Today is your second birthday. We are so glad you are home this year to celebrate. It was so hard last year to miss your first. However, we were glad you were able to have a traditional Korean birthday with your foster family. I am sure they are thinking of you today. We hope your birth mother has peace in her heart today knowing you are safe and loved.
The boys got up this morning and wanted you to open the gifts from us first thing. I had to work today and we had planned on opening them tonight after dinner. The boys won and I was almost late for work because we were having too much fun! Yes, the boys are still in their underwear. Thats how they roll!
The boys have been way more excited about your birthday than they have ever been their own. They adore you and just cannot get enough of you. Nathaniel said just the other day how much God blessed us with you.
The boys were determined to get you a gift just from them. Nathaniel was sure you needed the cabbage patch dirty to clean bath doll. So we went shopping and found just that.
You wanted to get in the bath with your new rain boots and your doll.
But your Diego and Dora dolls Aunt Nancy gave you are still your favorite. You have to sleep with them and you also took them to church. So funny!
We had an extra special night planned for you. We wanted to celebrate Korean style as much as we could so we went to dinner at Samurai where they have Korean food. It is owned by a Korean couple and they are always so sweet to you.
Bi Bim Bop and Bulgogi!!! Bulgogi was our favorite while were were in Korea.
You were pretty good with chopsticks!
They came out and sang to you and brought all three of you ice cream.
Ice cream! Better than cake!
They told you happy birthday in Korean and you said, "thank you".
Then she said goodbye in Korean and you said, "goodbye".
Did you understand them? We will never know but it sure seemed that way.
Today I am thankful you are with us to celebrate this year, for your birthmother who chose life for you, and that God chose us to be your family. We love you Ella!
I didn't give you the gift of life,
But in my heart I know.
The love I feel is deep and real,
As if it had been so.
For us to have each other
Is like a dream come true!
No, I didn't give you
The gift of life,
Life gave me the gift of you.
